Password Strength Checker

Check how strong a password is, what character types it uses, and how long it would take to crack. Your password never leaves this page.

Nothing you type here is sent or saved. The check runs in your browser.

How to use it

Type a password and the result updates as you type. The bar and label show its strength, the list shows which character types it contains, and the crack time is an estimate based on how many combinations an attacker would have to try. Longer passwords win: every extra character multiplies the combinations, so a 14-character passphrase is far stronger than an 8-character password with symbols. Use a different password for every site, turn on two-factor authentication where it is offered, and store passwords in a password manager instead of notes or a spreadsheet.

FAQ

Does this tool need sign up?

No. Type a password and it is checked in your browser.

Is my password sent anywhere?

No. It is never sent or saved by this site. Check it here, then store the real password in a password manager.

What makes a password strong?

Length first, then a mix of character types. A long passphrase beats a short password full of symbols.
