How it works

Your photo never leaves your browser. Background removal uses a person segmentation model that runs in your browser, so it works best for photos of people, which is what passport photos are. The mask is now drawn at full photo size with smoothing, and Edge softness feathers the outline, so hair and shoulders look less jagged than before. If one model gives a poor edge, try the other model, and use Show original photo to compare before you download. It will not reliably remove backgrounds from objects, pets, or busy scenes. If removal fails, you can still crop and download your photo as it is. Passport rules differ by country, so check your country's photo rules for size, background colour, and head size before you print or submit it.
